Shalom, at its inception was one among the five Special Schools in Kerala. It was started in the Campus of Lourdes Mount Higher Secondary School, Vattappara in the year 1974 by the Kerala Ecumenical Mission Mental Health Centre.
It is a Charitable Institution of Dioceses and Missions and is registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act (XII of 1955) Reg. No.90/70.
Sensitization and acceptance of developmentally delayed children who deserve the same love, affection and attention as any other child.
To become a centre of excellence by developing conducive environment for children with special needs. To provide holistic development so as to enable children to be part of the society and development of self advocacy.
Many drop outs from General Schools with different kinds of learning difficulties (disabilities) come here for admission. Quite a good number of them are helped to overcome their problems through remedial teaching, corrective measures and trained to earn their livelihood. Some of them are able to earn their livelihood and lead happy married life thereafter. In this way they become part of the mainstream of the society.
